The Epiphora method
in English
What is the Epiphora Method?
The Epiphora Method is an exercise method that correct a shortage of blood supply in your brain by performing certain postures and movements.
The method was developed by Hans Timmerman in 2010: physiotherapist, haptotherapist and breathfaclitator. Hans is now retired, but still very active with the method. Over the years, he has seen thousands of people benefit from this method. His mission is to make the Epiphora Method widely known. The method can particularly be of value for people who cannot be helped (properly) in the medical world with complaints such as whiplash, post-commotional syndrome, exhaustion, chronic pain complaints and fibromyalgia, Long Covid, rheumatic complaints, migraine with auras, sleeping problems and persistent tension complaints.
Epiphora has elements of breathwork, haptonomy, physio/manual therapy and transpersonal psychology. With the Epiphora Method you can positively influence your autonomic nervous system, resulting in the end of long-term blockages and cramps in the blood vessels throughout the body. These cramps are often the result of being in 'alarm' mode for too long, in a constant state of stress and alertness, without your body being able to do anything with it.
You will learn the exercises from an Epiphora Coach, in this case, from me, Clinty Thuijls. Most of the time I find that three appointments are needed and enough to learn all the steps properly. This depends off course on your situation, your resilience, your willingness to practice and your history. Once you know and master the method, you can apply it yourself for the rest of your life. The method is effective when applied daily and when you continue to do so. It means that you fit the exercises into your life and continue to do them in order to not suffer from your complaints again.
Do you suffer from:
Pressure feeling on the head
Hair root pain
Blurred vision
Light and/or noise intolerance
Muscle pain and/or stiffness
Irritable bowel
Feeling cold
Brain fog
Or ...
Do you suffer from (aura) migraines, have you ever had a whiplash, a smack to the head or neck, have you had a concussion and are you just not getting back to normal? The Epiphora method could possibly provide an improvement for your complaints.
There are similarities between the symptoms that people experience with ME/CFS (chronic fatigue syndrome), fibromyalgia, and long COVID. Doing Epiphora brought positive reactions from people with Long Covid who gained more energy by applying the Epiphora method.
Note
Epiphora method is not a replacement for regular medical treatment such as a general practitioner or specialist, but is a complementary form of therapy. I never recommend stopping regular treatments. There are a number of contraindications for which I do not treat. If I have any doubts, I will refer you to a doctor or physiotherapist.

1-on-1 coaching
The Epiphora method consists of 10 steps. The exercises are fairly simple to perform but they need to be performed properly. If they are not performed properly the result may not be achieved or other complaints may arise. Some people need another approach or adjustments. For safety and protection of the clients and the method, 1-on-1 guidance is therefore recommended.
Online appointment
If you don’t live in Amsterdam, and you want to learn the method, you can book an online appointment with me. Therefore you need a good and stable internet connection. I recommend that you wear headphones or earphones so that you can hear me clearly when I explain the exercises to you. You do the exercises lying on your bed. So make sure your laptop is positioned in a way that I can see you from head to toe. It is also useful to have some pillows nearby.
How many appointments?
On average, 3 appointments are enough. This depends on your health situation, your resilience, your ability to learn quickly or slowly, your body awareness and your willingness to exercise.
Appointment 1: Consists of an intake and learning the first steps of the method. You will perform and experience these. After the appointment you will receive the exercises and an audio recording and you will practice at home.
Appointment 2: Follows 7-10 days later. You will learn the rest of the steps of the method and any mistakes will be corrected. With this new information you will practice at home again.
Appointment 3: Follows 14 days later. All exercises are fine-tuned. After this, you will be able to perform the method perfectly and independently. You will now have valuable tools for the rest of your life.
The appointments last 60 minutes each and cost €100
Warning:
There are videos of the method circulating on the internet. Never try to get started yourself, and don't just teach them to someone else if you have mastered them, but ask to be guided by a certified Epiphora Coach.
